SERVICES PREPARATORY INSTITUTE

The Institute will commence with its courses every year in June. Our Endeavourer is to provide your children the best of education and guidance all with the aim to see that maximum boys join the Defense Services as officers.

Inception

The Pravara Rural Education Society (PRES) has taken on the challenge of establishing the PVSPI in the 2004-05, as an adjunct of the Padmashri Vikhe Patil Sainik School (PVSS). The institute has now smoothly flown into the second successful year. SPI is a concept initially started by the Commandant Col. (Retd.) D.H. Parab who has taken this idea from the SPI, Aurangabad where he was the Director for five years. The aim is to prepare eligible Maharashtrian and other boys to join the officer cadre of the Defence Services. In this new concept boys are placed up in Class XI and trained for two years. The routine, training and the curriculum at the SPI is such that by following the same they become eligible to appear at the Services Selection Board (SSB) Additional guidance for the SSB is also given.

The PVSPI is run by the Pravara Rural Education Society (PRES). The Institute is directly controlled by Col (Retd.) D. H. Parab, who had been Commandant of the RIMC, Director of SPI Aurangabad and had also been an Interviewing Officer at the Selection Center in Allahabad. In all these institutes he had been able to achieve commendable results with a large number of boys who got selected to joining NDA and other Defence Academies.

Aims

To prepare the cadets to appear for the competitive examination of UPSC (NDA) and SSB Interviews.

To build physical and mental qualities in them required for an officer of the Defence sevices.

Curriculum

NDA Coaching – 20 additional periods per week over an above their normal curriculum have been added. Every evening 6 to 8 and 4 hours on Sunday are dedicated for the same. For this purpose high calibre teachers form PRES have been selected to teach Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History and Geography.

Hobbies – Carpentry, Al–Chemist, Young Newtons, Aero–Modeling, Music/Art, Gardening, Pottery are the hobbies which have been introduced in the Institute to initiate students to pick these activities which will keep them occupied in their spare time.

Hikes – Himachal Pradesh Adventurous Course is organized every year which includes Mountaineering, Trekking, River Crossing, Rappling, Rock Climbing & Wall Climbing.Midterm Hikes are organized with bases at various military centers at Pune, Secundarabad, Ahmednagar, Aurangabad, Kolhapur. RIMC Hike is also organized once a year where the boys get a chance to do White Water Rafling.Student Exchange Programme is also carried out with SPI, Aurangabad.

      Exhibitions - Science, Arts, Maths, Exhibitions are organized periodically.

      Boxing - Boxing Coaches from Army units are there to teach boys boxing which is an important sports for boys aspiring to join the Defence Services

      Sport Competition - Divisional / District / State Level Sport Competitions are organized from time to time and accordingly the cadets are trained. Sports are as follows :-Football, Boxing, Basketball, KhoKho , CrossCountry, Volleyball, Swimming, Cricket & Athletics.

      Swimming - An Olympic size swimming pool will be available at the new location. At present we have a 25-mtr swimming pool.

      Competitive Exams - UPSC (NDA) written examination, National Cyber Olympiad Exams, All India General Knowledge Exam, are compulsory for all the cadets.

      NCC - NCC training is available for all eligible cadets.

      Co-curricular activities (CCA) - Various activities like Elocution competition, Speech competition, Debates, Group discussion, Science quiz, Maths quiz, are organized to develop the cadet’s personality.

Training

Junior College that is Class XI and XII will be conducted along with PV Sainik School prepared for the NDA written examination by employing additional faculty of the highest caliber. They are trained for SSB under expert guidance. The Cadets will get a minimum of two chances to appear for the NDA Examination.

PVSPI Terms

The academic year is divided in two terms as follows :

- First Term - June to October

- Diwali Vacation - November (21 days)

- Second Term - December to April

- Summer Vacation - April, May, June (60 days)

Admission Eligibility

Age limit, Sex and marital status

Only unmarried male candidates between 14 ½ years and 17 years, as per the UPSC (NDA) norms, can appear for the examination.

Educational Qualifications

Must have passed 10^th Standard preferably from English medium with English, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.

Medical and Physical Standards

Candidates must be physically fit according to the norms given out in detail in the Examination Notice of Union Public Service Commission for National Defence Academy Examination.

Application Form

To appear for the Entrance Examination you have to apply for a Prospectus, which costs Rs.100/-. Bank draft for the amount payable to Commandant, Pd. Dr. Vitthalrao Vikhe Patil Sainik School, Pravaranagar should be forwarded. The Application form will be with the Prospectus.

Fees

This will be approximately Rs.35, 000/- annually.

Security Deposit (Refundable) Rs.3, 000/-

Caution Money (Not refundable) Rs.1, 500/-

Entrance Examination

Date: - Last Sunday of April.

This will comprise a Written and Oral Examination. Written examination of Objective type based on Standard X syllabus on Maths, English, Science, G.K. The written examination will take place in the morning and interview in the afternoon of the same day.

Interview

The only candidates qualifying in the written examination will be interviewed. The interview will assess Intelligence, Personality, General awareness and knowledge of current affairs etc. The Interview is generally conducted in English and candidates are expected to speak in English.

Selection and Joining PVSPI

Based on the Entrance Examination a Merit list is drawn and successful candidates are asked to join after the SSC Board results are declared.

Co-curricular activities

All cadets compulsorily do PT / Yoga for 40 minutes every morning and play games for 45 minutes in the evening. PVSPI provides facilities to play Football, Hockey, Volley Ball, Basket Ball, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Wrestling, Swimming, Athletics, Cross Country and Boxing.

Accommodation

The cadets are accommodated in comfortable accommodation.

Food and Messing

A balanced diet of minimum 3000 calories per day is offered to each cadet under the direct supervision of the Mess Manager. The main features are as follows –

1) 500 ml. of milk

2) Chickens and eggs twice a week.

3) Grand Feast once a week.

Laundry / Barber

These facilities are available on the Campus.

Medical Facilities

A sick room with a qualified doctor and a nurse looks after the health of the children.

Location

The Institute is located at Pravaranagar which 20 Kms from Shirdi and 60 Kms from Ahmednagar. The city is only connected by roads.
The nearest bus junction is Babhaleshwar, on the Ahmednagar – Shirdi – Manmad State Highway, which is just 2 Km away.
The Institute is also approachable from Loni (Ahmednagar – Sangamner Route) which is 3 Km. away.
